Transitions

Monday marked an exciting change in my work here as an intern.  Not only was it my first day (ever!) spent away from working on the action calendar, but it was also the first day of operating under the new schedule and with the revisions made to various aspects of production.  I got the chance take part in Your Voice Here, which I've always been interested in but never had the opportunity to be directly involved with.  Marcy, Mark, and I headed to the 16th Street Mall to do a story on the SEIU Solidarity march and walk-out.  After a few mishaps and getting off to a later start than intended, we ended up getting some quality material and interviewed several people with good insight on union workers' rights and the meaning of that day (the anniversary of the assassination of MLK Jr.).  I felt slightly inept as "talent" simply because I have no experience doing anything even remotely related to journalism, but I really enjoyed it.  When we got back, I recorded several voiceovers, and paid close attention to the editing process on Final Cut.  We ended up totally blowing the 3:00 deadline and decided it'd probably be best to leave Free Speech earlier than 11:30 next time.  I look forward to doing this more often, and hope I learn as much as possible about the production for Your Voice Here during the next few weeks!

  1. I glad you were able to switch gears and take part in the your voice here segment. You did a great job as talent and I think I will be nice for you to get some more experience in more news aspects.
