Your Voice Here 2/2/11

Hey y'all. Today's Your Voice Here was a blast. We had Aaron on talent, Mark on camera and me producing. We had great luck finding informed people wanting to talk about the labor rally's going on in Wisconsin. I learned a lot about the issue I hadn't previously understood. While the budget cuts to education are a crucial facet of the issue, people seemed to concur that collective bargaining was by far the most important point. Legislating away state employee's right to collective bargaining completely undermines the power of labor unions. Many people seemed to think the political agenda behind the budget rhetoric is to render unions obsolete.
Right before we were wrapping up, a man approached us, and said, "You definitely want to talk to me." Turns out, he was labor union rep from D.C. He provided the most informed, articulate interview I've gotten yet for a Your Voice Here.
Once again, the beautiful weather served us, people were friendly and easily convinced to talk to us. However, Aaron pointed out that our bunch of interviewees were completely homogenous, entirely white males, except for one female high school freshman. Its an important aspect of production to keep in mind.

  1. I wish I could be a part of these shoots! Maybe I'll ditch a day or two of school on an upcoming Wednesday, I know the MLK parade we shot was a really awesome opportunity to talk to other activists.
